Maths Teams is a charitable incorporated organisation registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales under number 1180961 at Kemp House, 152 - 160 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX

Our mission

To launch as many maths teams as there are football teams

We want every community in the UK to have a maths team, whether through its local primary school, community club, church or simply a dedicated group of maths enthusiasts.
Teachers make great maths team coaches. So do parents, secondary school and university students, and volunteers from schemes such as the Royal Statistical Society's ambassador project. We give you what you need to create a team through our carefully curated ten-week coaching programmes and competitions. Teams and volunteers are connected through our online community where ideas, competitions, best practice and achievements are shared. We are building a pipeline of creative problem solvers that runs from early primary school to the workplace. Maths Teams members support each other, develop life-long friendships and create opportunities all while helping to close the skills and diversity gap in the increasingly tech-led global workplace.

The team

St Peter's, W6

Team 1

There are twelve of us from Years 5 and 6 and we have practised at lunch once a week since September 2017. We love to code break and to compete for the chance to be professor of the day.

Carola Hoyos

Co-Founder & Director

Carola spent almost two decades writing about geopolitics and business at the Financial Times. She loves figuring out how to change the world for the better one maths puzzle at a time and is writing a book (not about maths).

Irene Barnett

Co-Founder & Director

Irene is a rocket scientist with a PhD in chemistry.  She used to work for Nasa in the US and now tutors maths and science in London. She's been known to work on tough maths puzzles until two o'clock in the morning.

Lynnette Perry

Founding Director

Lynnette is a software engineer who spent years at Goldman Sachs in New York and London. She has a knack for asking the questions that unlock our strategic thinking and a love of lists to get things done.
